The start of the Fall Semester is days away. August is the month for traditions at the School of Medicine as students hit new milestones in their medical education. Students beginning year three will celebrate with the White Coat Ceremony August 16. First year medical students will be celebrate the start of their education with inDOCtrination August 22. We welcome our new and continuing students for another great semester.

Located in the urban core of Kansas City, MO, the School of Medicine is committed to serving our neighbors and citizens through community outreach. Each year students volunteer through community programs to provide physicals, health screenings and other services to the community. Each Sunday School of Medicine students and faculty host the Sojourner Clinic at Grand Avenue United Methodist Temple. The free clinic provides outpatient care to the homeless and underprivileged population of downtown Kansas City.

From their first semester of medical school, students work with physician mentors, called docents, as part of their medical education. Hands on learning and clinical experience are integrated throughout all years of the program. During the first two years, this docent experience begins by helping teach students the fundamentals of medicine. Students experience a progressive increase of clinical responsibilities during the last four years.
